What are the Technical Requirements for online courses?

To access Canvas and Zoom, ICLS recommends connecting via a wired internet connection using an updated browser (Chrome, Firefox, or similar) on a desktop or laptop computer.

Minimum Internet Bandwidth Requirements

Note: Bandwidth requirements will increase with more participants.

Internet Properties Required
Ping 250 ms or less
Download 4 - 6 mbps
Upload 6 - 8 mbps

We recommend connecting via a wired internet connection due to the potential instability of wireless connections. If you connect via a wireless connection, please do not use a public WIFI network.

Important Notes

Students should use a desktop or laptop. Tablets are not recommend. Phones should not be used for online class.

It is also recommended to use headphones, preferably with a microphone attached or alongside an external webcam with microphone. Microphones built into computers often do not capture audio well and may result in difficulty being understood.
